Dr Bart Olechowski is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, offering comprehensive expertise across the spectrum of general and interventional cardiology. With a wealth of experience and a focus on delivering exemplary patient care, Dr Olechowski serves as a trusted specialist in Hampshire, dedicated to addressing a wide array of cardiovascular concerns.

He performed over a thousand stenting procedures and often utilises modern technologies in his catheter laboratory, such as intracoronary imaging and coronary physiology. 

Beyond ischemic heart disease, Dr Bart attends to individuals presenting with diverse symptoms such as chest pains, breathlessness, blackouts, and palpitations, offering thorough evaluation and personalized management strategies.

Dr Bart’s expertise extends to the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and valvular heart disease, where he applies evidence-based approaches to optimize patient outcomes.

Notably, Dr Olechowski holds accreditation from the British Society of Echocardiography, enabling him to perform echocardiograms directly during clinical consultations. This streamlined process is known as a “one stop clinic,” where Dr Bart conducts comprehensive clinical review, performs echocardiogram, and arrange heart rhythm monitoring—all within a single consultation. This integrated approach not only saves time but also ensures continuity of care and enhances patient convenience and satisfaction.

EDUCATION and POSTGRADUATE TRAINING

Dr Bart graduated from the Medical University in Lublin, Poland, in June 2008, earning his Master’s Degree in Medicine (MD). Since then, he has embarked on a multifaceted professional journey across four different NHS hospitals. Commencing his tenure as a junior doctor in August 2008 at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, Dr Bart undertook a rigorous rotational program spanning various medical disciplines. These included colorectal surgery, endocrinology/diabetes, elderly medicine, respiratory medicine, cardiology, acute stroke unit, renal medicine, gastroenterology, critical care, and the medical assessment unit. Following three years of dedicated training, Dr Bart achieved membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), underscoring his commitment to professional excellence and continual advancement.

Subsequently, Dr Bart embarked on specialized training in cardiology in 2012, undergoing rotations at prestigious institutions such as University Hospital Dorset, University Hospital Southampton, and Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. During this intensive period, he honed his skills and expertise in general cardiology, solidifying his knowledge and skills. Taking a hiatus to pursue advanced academic endeavours, Dr Bart dedicated two years to completing a doctorate degree, further augmenting his depth of knowledge and scholarly contributions to the medical community.
Resuming his training trajectory, Dr Bart commenced subspecialty training in Coronary Intervention in 2019, marking a pivotal phase in his professional evolution. In 2020, Dr Bart obtained the Certificate of Completion of Training, in both General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology.  Over the ensuing three years of rigorous fellowship, he demonstrated exceptional proficiency and dedication, culminating in the appointment as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust, where Dr Bart has been working since February 2022. 

RESEARCH

Dr. Bart research, titled Feasibility and reproducibility of tailored antiplatelet therapy using short thrombelastography,” served as the cornerstone of his doctoral pursuit at the University of Southampton, culminating in the conferral of his Doctorate in Medicine in 2019. This work delved into the viability and consistency of customized antiplatelet regimens, as evaluated through the innovative modality of short thrombelastography. The significance and impact of Dr Bart’s research were underscored by his recognition as a finalist for the prestigious BCIS Young Investigators Award in London in 2019. His work, titled “Validation of TEG 6s and its novel fifteen-minute test for assessment of individual responses to antiplatelet therapy,” exemplified the depth of his contributions to advancing the understanding and application of new device, called TEG 6s in clinical practice.
Beyond his doctoral research, Dr Bart’s scholarly contributions extend to an array of 16 peer-reviewed publications, further attesting to his academic rigor and dedication to advancing medical knowledge. Additionally, he has authored a chapter in a prestigious book “Clopidogrel and the Newer P2Y12 Antiplatelet Agents: Pharmacology, Clinical Uses, and Adverse Effects“.

CURRENT PRACTICE

Dr Bart Olechowski has been working as a Consultant Cariologist at Hampshire Hospital NHS Trust since February 2022. Dr Bart is considered a very good lecturer and trainer and has been invited to present interesting clinical cases at the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society ACI Meetings four times already, between 2020 and 2023. Dr Bart has a candid and open way of sharing his experiences in the clinic, and explains things clearly and concisely. He frequently utilizes visual aids, including diagrams, to enhance patients’ comprehension of their medical conditions, thereby facilitating their recovery process. Dr Bart organises monthly educational meetings tailored for his cath lab team and junior medical professionals, reflecting his fervent dedication to teaching and improving. Embracing a philosophy that cherishes the maxim, “every day is an opportunity to learn something new,” he fosters an environment conducive to continuous professional growth and development.
In addition to his NHS commitments, Dr Bart extends his expertise to private practice, seeing patients across several medical facilities. These include Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester, Candover Clinic in Basingstoke, Spire Clare Park Hospital in Farnham, and Luxmedica in London. Within these settings, he offers comprehensive evaluations and personalized treatment plans to individuals presenting with diverse symptoms and cardiac conditions. Dr Bart leverages his proficiency in conducting a range of specialized tests and implementing cutting-edge cardiac interventions to ensure optimal care and outcomes for his private patients.

PERSONAL LIFE

Dr Olechowski lives in Winchester alongside his wife, a respected local pharmacist, and their two children, who attend local schools. Their household is further enriched by the presence of their beloved dog, affectionately named “Sassy.”

Dr Bart is an enthusiast and an advocate of healthy living and an active lifestyle. He regularly takes part in running events, including two half marathons in 2023 (Basingstoke and Ealing), a half marathon in Winchester in 2022 and a marathon in Southampton in 2021. Dr Bart organises weekly running sessions for his cardiology department, which adds to his team`s well being and professional satisfaction. Furthermore, he promotes the advantages of embracing a healthy and physically active lifestyle through his engagement on social media platforms.
